Something I Wanted to Remember

I wanted to write down this quotation from Brothers Karamozov somewhere. When I read it a number of years ago I decided that I needed to remember it. I'm not sure why or in what context I have wanted to repeat it.
The more I love humanity in general, the less I love man in particular...the
more I detest men individually the more ardent becomes my love for
humanity.
Reminds me of Screwtape.
